Sustainable Defence Support - LOGNET Sub-working Group

Its purpose is to guide an accelerated development and exploitation path for sustainable, circular economy and carbon reduction activities across Defence Support . The joint nature of the WG is designed to promote collaboration and mutually beneficial outcomes in the development of a sustainable Defence Support Network, the wider stakeholder touchpoints and Defence’s realisation of NZ50 targets.

Many companies adn individuals contributed to the development of the Sustanability Roadmap White paper. The intial documetn trawl and literature review created a substantial knowledge base. The analysis of these papers was summarised to provide input to sections of the final paper. This document provides a record of those supporting papers.

The paper proposes a Carbon Measurement Framework for Defence and where the implementation of alternative fuels

can impact the main emitters without impacting operational capability. The operational impacts of a circular economy approach have been analyzed and funding options considered with a system of systems approach. Legislation and policy analysis will add clarity to the MoDís approach. Overlaying each NZ50 initiative against the Evaluation Criteria proposed by the paper will allow a prioritisation.

These Terms of Reference set out the responsibilities of the Sustainable Defence Support Sub-Working Group (SDSp SWG).

The SDSp SWG is a standing, joint MOD and Industry body reporting to the Defence Support Force Development Board (DSFDB) with secondary reporting responsibilities to Climate Change & Sustainability Implementation Group (CCSIG). Its purpose is to guide an accelerated development and exploitation path for sustainable, circular economy and carbon reduction activities across Defence Support . The joint nature of the WG is designed to promote collaboration and mutually beneficial outcomes in the development of a sustainable Defence Support Network, the wider stakeholder touchpoints and Defenceís realisation of NZ50 targets.

The aim of this task is to produce a joint MOD and Industry White Paper outlining a roadmap for transformation across Defence Support Network related operations to achieve the Net Zero targets. This should consider the full spectrum of operations and identify a roadmap of activity that will move Defence towards more sustainable activities, greater self-sustaining Force Elements and resilient low carbon systems. Realisation of this will require Defence Support to influence and act across the entire capability and operational lifecycle.
